Frequently asked questions
The short answers. If yours is not here, the last one tells you how to reach a person.
How do you pronounce Shikomi?
shee-KOH-mee. Three syllables, with the stress in the middle.
What does Shikomi mean?
仕込み (shikomi) is the Japanese kitchen word for preparation, the quiet work done before service: stocks started, doughs proofed, stations set. It is the work that makes the cooking possible, which is what this app is for.
Who can see my recipes?
Only you. Every recipe is private by default: nothing is shared unless you create a share link for it, and you can stop sharing at any time.
Do I have to use grams?
No. Grams are the primary unit because they are precise, but ounces, cups, and tablespoons are fully supported. Set your default in Settings → Cooking Preferences.
Are AI-imported recipes saved automatically?
Never. Paste a recipe in or import it from a link; describe-from-memory is in beta, with PDF behind it. Either way, every import stops at a review step where you check and edit the draft. Nothing enters your book without your OK.
Can I delete a version?
Versions are permanent by design: that is the point of the history. You can delete an entire recipe, which removes all of its versions with it.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Open Settings → Data & Export and download your whole library as Markdown or JSON: every recipe with its full history and test sessions, readable in any editor. You can export a single recipe too, and it all works on the free plan. Your recipes are yours.
