Terms of Service
Effective July 11, 2026.
Welcome to Shikomi ("we," "us," "our"), a recipe capture, versioning, and cooking tool available at getshikomi.com (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who can use Shikomi
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using it, you confirm you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate.
2. Alpha software
The Service is early-stage software offered on an invite/alpha basis. It may change, break, lose data, or become unavailable without notice. Features described anywhere may be incomplete or removed. We keep automated backups but do not guarantee against data loss, so please keep your own copies of anything important using the export feature.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@getshikomi.com if you suspect unauthorized use. You may sign in with email and password or with a supported third-party provider (such as Google).
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the recipes, notes, photos, and other content you add ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. We do not claim ownership of your recipes.
You are responsible for having the right to upload what you add. Do not upload content that infringes others' copyrights or violates the law. Note that recipe lists of ingredients and basic instructions are generally not copyrightable, but substantial creative text, photos, and prose may be. Respect the source when you import.
5. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- Break the law or infringe others' rights using the Service;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- Abuse automated import or AI features, or attempt to circumvent usage limits;
- Upload malicious code or scrape the Service without permission.
We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these Terms.
6. AI-assisted import
The Service uses AI to help structure and import recipes (for example, reading a recipe from a pasted link or free-text description). AI output can be inaccurate. Always review imported recipes before relying on them. You are responsible for verifying quantities, times, temperatures, and safety-critical details before cooking.
7. Food safety disclaimer
Shikomi is a tool for organizing and developing recipes. It is not a source of food-safety, nutritional, allergen, or dietary advice. You are solely responsible for safe food handling, for checking allergens, and for the outcome of anything you cook. We are not liable for any harm arising from recipes stored, imported, or developed in the Service.
Some cooking processes are safety-critical, and a recipe alone is never enough to do them safely. Do not rely on any recipe in the Service, and especially not on imported or AI-drafted recipes, for canning, pickling for storage, curing, fermentation, sous-vide pasteurization, or judging the doneness of meat, poultry, eggs, or seafood. Small errors in time, temperature, or acidity can make preserved food dangerous even when it looks and smells fine. Before you follow any preservation process, verify it against an authoritative source, such as the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning or the National Center for Home Food Preservation (nchfp.uga.edu). The Service may show safety reminders on some recipes, but the absence of a reminder never means a recipe is safe.
8. Service changes and availability
We may add, change, or discontinue features at any time. We may set or change usage limits (such as recipe caps or AI import limits) during the alpha period. We aim for reliability but do not promise uninterrupted availability.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time by contacting support@getshikomi.com. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. On deletion, we remove your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy, though residual copies may persist briefly in backups.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shikomi and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which, during the free alpha, is zero).
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be handled in the courts located there, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where practical, notify you. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
